Cosmetic Dentistry – Braces

July 16, 2014

“Do you know that braces can also help improve the look of your smile? They also can correct few dental problems. While cosmetic dentists can help with the braces, family dentists too can help with dental braces. Let us have a brief insight of what dental braces are. “

People of all ages today are benefiting from dental braces. These braces not only improve the appearance of teeth that are crowded or crooked, but can also correct jaw joint and jaw positioning disorders and an irregular bite problem.

In order to place braces, your dentist or orthodontist ties brackets made of metal, plastic, or ceramic to your teeth. Then he or she places archwires through the brackets, which move the teeth into their correct positions. Dentists can also attach lingual braces, which are bonded to the back of the teeth, hiding them from view.

After braces are attached, you will be required to visit your dentist on a regular basis so that he or she can tighten them. Of course, you can expect some discomfort for a few days when the dentist tightens your braces.

Risks with dental braces are minimal; however, people who have periodontal disease are at greater risk for problems during treatment. Some people might also face with a minor problem such root shortening.

An alternative for correcting minor teeth spacing problems involves wearing a clear, custom fit trays called progressive aligners. Your dentist will reshape and replace these trays about every two weeks to move your teeth gradually. The benefit of such aligners is that, unlike traditional braces, they are virtually invisible and can be removed while eating, brushing, and flossing.
