IV sedation dentistry in ViennaAt Monarch Dentistry, we understand that many patients are uneasy about visiting the dentist due to dental anxieties and fears. As a Vienna dentist, we don’t want to see you put your oral health at risk from the fear of pain and discomfort, which is why we offer IV sedation dentistry in Vienna. IV sedation is a safe and effective means to offer pain-free dentistry by using a sedation that’s administered intravenously. This allows us to perform dental procedures while you’re as comfortable as possible.

What is IV Sedation?

IV sedation involves placing a small needle, usually in the backside of your hand or inner elbow, to allow the delivery of the sedation medication. This medication relaxes a patient to make you fully comfortable to relieve your pain and anxiety. For those who suffer from gag reflexes, the sedation will allow you to remain in the procedure for as long as possible to allow us to get our dental work done.

While under sedation, you’ll become unaware of smells, sounds, and sights of our office that might cause you to feel uneasy. However, you’ll remain able to respond to verbal instructions from the dentist. Often, upon using the sedation, you won’t even remember the procedure the following day.

IV sedation is the best choice to allow the dentist to control the level of sedation. As a result, you’re able to undergo procedures longer, requiring less visits to the dentist. Although the sedation is considered safe, some patients aren’t candidates, which is why it’s important to undergo a preliminary exam and evaluation prior to the procedure.

If you are a candidate for IV sedation, you can’t eat or drink anything for at least 12 hours prior to sedation. During sedation, we will monitor your heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen level according to the American Dental Association’s Guidelines. Since you will be groggy after being awaken from sedation, you will need someone to drive you home because you shouldn’t drive or operate heavy equipment for at least 24 hours after. While many are groggy after sedation, the effects wear off quickly and you’ll be alert in no time.
